The only thing more troublesome than a Cynster man...is a Cynster lady who believes love is not her destiny. Famously known in London society as "The Matchbreaker," Henrietta Cynster's uncanny skill lies in preventing ill-fated nuptials - not in falling victim to Cupid's spell.
But then she disrupts one match too many and feels honor-bound to assist dashing James Glossup in finding a suitable bride for a marriage of convenience.
A task infernally complicated by the undeniable, unquenchable attraction that flares between James and Henrietta, who continues to believe she will never fall..
Our story opens in London in the year 1837.
Henrietta Cynster catches her sister Mary in her room. If you have read the Cynster Sister Trilogy, you will understand about the sister’s superstition. If you haven’t read any of the Cynster books, you may want to go back and at least read the Trilogy. This will catch you up on the superstition. It may also get you hooked on the Cynster’s.
James Glossup is looking to get married. And he seemed set on a friend of Henrietta’s. But then he ends up needing Henrietta’s assistance. It’s going to be interesting to see how that works out. This is not just a simple romance but there is a mystery as well. This is one thing that I love about Stephanie’s work. She always puts in a little something extra that you have no choice but to turn the page to see what’s going to happen.
Stephanie’s female characters always appear to be strong when they need to be and know when to let the men “beat their chests”. The men seem to believe in protecting their women “for their own good”. That’s something that just wouldn’t fly today.
This is a book that you will definitely want to read from beginning to end. First, you don’t want to miss all the excitement. And second, you don’t want to miss who is going to be in book two of the Cynster Sister Duo. If you are already a Stephanie Laurens fan, you will not be disappointed in adding another great book to your collection. If you think you have missed any of the Cynster series, just head over to Stephanie’s web site, http://www.stephanielaurens.com/index.html, and take a look at her book list. Book two is titled The Taming of Ryder Cavanaugh coming out in June. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for her next set of characters. (Reviewed by Lynn from Romance Reader Enthusiast).
