sealofhonor-tourbuttonThanks so much for having me here today! I’m very excited about my new release SEAL OF HONOR and for this opportunity to share the guys of HORNET with you!

So let’s meet team, shall we?

GabrielGabriel Mathew Bristow

Age: 32
Build: 6’4″, 226 lbs
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Dark brown
Nickname: Stonewall
Hometown: Arlington, VA
Position in HORNET: Commander
Career before HORNET: Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander
Favorite Food: Pizza
Random Fact: His younger brother, Raffi, is his hero.
Best Friend: Travis Quinn
Photo Used for Inspiration: To the right

Gabe has an innate need to fix problems and get results, but he never asks for help when he needs it. He’s organized to a fault and expects people to line up and follow him unquestioningly. He can be dominating and come on too strong. Because he has such a strong will, he’s considered inflexible, hence his nickname. He has little tolerance for mistakes and finds it easier to dole out orders than communicate. He’s extremely protective of what he considers “his.”

TravisTravis Benjamin Quinn
Age: 31
Build: 6’2″, 200 lbs
Eyes: Gray
Hair: Dark blond, very short
Nickname: Achilles
Hometown: Baltimore, MD
Position in HORNET: XO (Executive Officer), 2nd in command
Career Before HORNET: Navy SEAL
Favorite Drink: National Bohemian beer–“Natty Boh”
Random Fact: He has one tattoo–a frogman in honor of a childhood friend who inspired him to go into the Navy.
Best Friend: Gabe Bristow
Photo Used for Inspiration: To the right

Quinn is a man with high standards of conduct that he holds himself and everyone else to. He doesn’t do well with shades of gray and would rather take orders than give them. He’s merciless to enemies and fiercely loyal to those he loves. He chooses friends and lovers very carefully, but once he offers his heart and trust to someone, he will die to protect that person. He has trouble accepting that he is only human and that, sometimes, he needs help. Extremely focused and driven, he has an innate need to correct everything that is wrong in the world.

JesseJesse Alexander Warrick
Age: 29
Build: 6’0″, 190 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Golden brown, long. He wears it pulled back in a tail under his ever-present cowboy hat.
Nickname: “Sawbones” or sometimes just “Bones”
Hometown: Jackson, WY
Position in HORNET: Medic
Career Before HORNET: Delta Force medic
Favorite Place to hang out: A small lake near his ranch
Random Fact: Jesse married his high school sweetheart, Lacy, at age 18. They divorced 7 years later, shortly after their son, Connor, was born.
Actor/Model Used for Inspiration: Keith Urban

Raised on a Wyoming ranch, Jesse has a strict moral code and a strong work ethic. While he apologetically breaks some rules, he won’t do anything that goes against his principles. A gentleman who is comfortable with himself and mostly easy to get along with, he makes friends effortlessly, but he uses his good ol’ boy charm as a mask and very few people see the real Jesse Warrick. He is a chameleon, adept at changing to new circumstances. When he falls in love (and that happens a lot), he falls hard and fast—and usually falls out of love just as fast as soon as a new mission comes along.

Jean-LucJean-Luc Cavalier
Age: 34
Build: 6’4”, 197 lbs.
Hair: blond, straight, shoulder-length
Eyes: blue
Hometown: New Orleans, LA
Career before HORNET: CIA linguist. He’s fluent in 13 languages and counting.
Always wanted to be: King of Carnival. Seriously.
Favorite Music: Anything lively
Random Fact: Although he’s very good with language and can mimic any accent or intonation, he still speaks with his native N’awlins twang.
Photo used for inspiration: To the right

A genius with linguistics, Jean-Luc loves learning new languages or cracking seemingly uncrackable codes, but when his mind is unoccupied, his capricious side takes over and he tends to get into trouble. When he has a problem to solve, he’s completely absorbed in it and can become insular and forgetful. When he’s bored, he tends to make rash and reckless choices. He works hard and plays harder.

IanIan Zachary Reinhardt
Age: 30
Build: 6’1″, 195 lbs
Eyes: dark brown
Hair: dark brown
Nickname: Boomer
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Position in HORNET: Explosive ordnance disposal
Career before HORNET: Navy EOD (explosive ordnance disposal)
Favorite Drink: Johnnie Walker Black
Preferred Weapon: Anything that goes boom!
Random Fact: He has a huge soft spot for children. They are one of the few things that can make him laugh and he hates to see anyone mistreat a child.
Photo Used for Inspiration: To the right

Ian’s a disappointed idealist with a very cynical outlook on life. In typical bad boy fashion, he breaks rules he doesn’t like, oftentimes lets his bitterness get in the way of rational thought, and burns bridges he shouldn’t. He’s unpredictable, moody, and insolent, and lives by his own code of honor. He doesn’t trust easily, but once you have his trust, he’s steadfastly loyal. He uses sneers and a prickly attitude to hide a big heart and an innate need to protect those that can’t fend for themselves. When he falls in love, he falls hard.

EricEric Shawn Physick
Age: 23
Build: 6’1″, 175 lbs.
Eyes: brown
Hair: dark auburn brown
Nickname: Harvard
Hometown: New Haven, CT
Education: 2 doctorates from Harvard–one in political economy and government and another in social policy. Also has several masters degrees in international development, mathematics of cryptography and communications, computer science and information security.
Position in HORNET: Computer guy, researcher
Career Before HORNET: CIA Intelligence Analyst
Favorite Video Game: Call of Duty
Preferred Weapon: His brain
Actor/Model Used for Inspiration: Topher Grace

Harvard is the kind of genius who does crossword puzzles in ink and never makes a mistake. He’s persistent and thorough and analyzes a problem from every angle. Once he commits to something, he always follows through. He gets bored easily and craves change. He’s used to being the smartest person in the room and is frustrated when others can’t keep up with him intellectually, but his physical skills are often underestimated.

MarcusMarcus Luca Deangelo
Age: 34
Build: 6’2″, 200 lbs
Eyes: dark brown
Hair: dark brown, longish, curly
Most Striking Feature: His smile
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Position in HORNET: Negotiator/ resident lock picker
Career Before HORNET: FBI Negotiator
Favorite Food: His mother’s Zeppole
Hobby: Surfing
Best Friend: Danny Giancarelli
Photo Used for Inspiration: To the right

Marcus is fun and irresistible with a devastatingly charming smile. He never judges and thinks nobody should judge him. He’d rather use his charm and wit to talk his way out of a situation than fight his way out. He’s very intelligent and adapts easily to new circumstances. Although he carries around a lot of guilt, he doesn’t like to spend time dwelling on past traumas and prefers to keep things light and easy. If anyone ever gets under all of his glitz and charm to the real man, he gets nervous and makes a fast exit. He’s a love ’em and leave ’em type guy.

As my first published book, these characters will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope as you get to know them, this ragtag bunch will win you over too.

Big thanks to Urban Girl Reader for having me!

Series: HORNET #1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Entangled Select
Publish Date: May 28, 2013
352 pages

Book Description:

It’s a good thing Gabe Bristow lives and breathes the Navy SEAL credo, “the only easy day was yesterday,” because today, his life is unrecognizable. When his prestigious career comes to a crashing halt, he’s left with a bum leg and few prospects for employment that don’t include a desk.

That is, until he’s offered the chance to command a private hostage rescue team and free a wealthy American businessman from Colombian paramilitary rebels. It seems like a good deal—until he meets his new team: a drunk Cajun linguist, a boy-genius CIA threat analyst, an FBI negotiator with mob ties, a cowboy medic, and an EOD expert as volatile as the bombs he defuses. Oh, and who could forget the sexy, frustratingly impulsive Audrey Van Amee? She’s determined to help rescue her brother—or drive Gabe crazy. Whichever comes first.

As the death toll rises, Gabe’s team of delinquents must figure out how to work together long enough to save the day. Or, at least, not get themselves killed. Because Gabe’s finally found something worth living for, and God help him if he can’t bring her brother back alive.

About Tonya Burrows

Writing has always been my one true love. I wrote my first novel-length story in 8th grade and haven't stopped since. I received a B.A. in creative writing from SUNY Oswego and I'm now working on a MFA in popular fiction at Seton Hill University.

When I'm not writing, I spend my time reading, painting (badly), exploring new places, and enjoying time with my family. Give me a good horror movie over a chick flick any day. (And, let's be honest, I'll take a bad horror movie too!) I'm a geek at heart and pledge my avid TV fandom to Supernatural and Doctor Who. I'm also a big fan of The Voice. What can I say? Guilty pleasure.

I share my life with two dogs and a ginormous cat. We live in a small town in PA, but I suffer from a bad case of wanderlust and usually end up moving someplace new every few years. Luckily, my animals are all excellent travel buddies.

Lynn’s Review:
Bryson Van Amee is in Columbia when he gets a call from his sister.  Audrey Van Amee has an art show coming up and she’s reminding him about his obligation.  Then the action begins – and a great reason to keep turning the page.

Gabe Bristow is a military man on his way to a party in his honor.  His younger brother, Rafael, is very unique – you’ll see how unique when you “meet” him.  I love that Tonya included him in her story because he’s not the usual brother I see in the books that I have read – especially a romance novel.

You will want to make sure that you read this book, in Tonya’s new series, first because it shows how the HORNET team came to be.  If you like lots of action with your romantic suspense stories this will give you that.  I would love to see Dwayne Johnson as Gabe – and who wouldn’t (for me, Arnold Schwarzenegger just doesn’t cut it anymore.)  But if you stop by her blog, http://www.tonya-burrows.blogspot.com, you can see who she used for her inspiration.  For Abby’s character it would have to be someone sassy, physically fit, and who also speaks spanish but petite in stature.

The HORNET team reminds me of the old “A-Team” series but on steroids.  I found it interesting to see that with all the action going on around her, Abby still sees things with an artist’s eye.  Would loved to have seen some colored illustrations included – I bet they would have been spectacular.

Tonya gives our couple their first kiss at the most perfect moment – that’s all I’m saying because I want you to enjoy it for yourself.  Their first time together is totally hot – just like the country they’re in.  You’ll want to make sure you have your fan handy.  The only thing I couldn’t find out is anything about book two.  We’ll just have to be patient.  I hope you like Tonya’s book as much as I did. (Reviewed by Lynn Reynolds from Romance Reader Enthusiast)
