One will survive and adapt, the other will realize hearts can be mended even if it’s a bit too late.

The road to forgiveness sometimes only brings more pain. Unexpected events set their lives on two separate tracks leading to one outcome. Lives will be changed and an emotional battle to save their souls will leave them both trapped and enslaved in their need for one another.

Lynn’s Review:
Jesminda “Jes” Zealand is sitting at a bar wearing a bikini along with her friend Belinda “Bells” Raine Ignis.  They’re two women on vacation.  Draven is at the same bar and becomes instantly attracted to Jes.  The sexual tension is almost immediate.  As you read this book, you will notice that Draven is a take-charge kind of guy.  This is the book that gives you a lot of information as to who the people are that make up the Shadow Unit.

One night, while reading this book I happened to be watching a new CW series titled The Tomorrow People.  It was a great way to get me into Tigris’ series – a great inspiration.  It couldn’t have been planned better.  I was reading the scene where Jes meets some people from the Unit for the first time.  I could almost feel the amount of testosterone that filled that room.

This book has a lot of action in it – and the suspense is killing me.  Each sex scene is so hot that you either need to keep a fan handy or an extinguisher so that you can put the fire out.  Tirgris give’s her readers a mating scene that will just suck you in and you’ll be happy to know that our couple take their time to enjoy each other.  It’s a sensual ride that you will not want it to end.

Our author has created some characters that make me wish that I could step in their shoes for just a little while – oh the fun I could have.  And the action and suspense she creates makes for a great page-turner.  There are also a few scenes that are a little graphic – violence wise.  So it’s just a warning in case you are a little squeamish.  Cruelty besides being graphic will make you shiver – it’s needed though in order to show how evil one of the characters is.

The ending is perfect because it will lead the reader right into book two.  This is one reason that this series must be read in order.  If you were like me and read Burned in Shadows first, a lot will make sense once you read Jes and Draven’s story.  Then we can anticipate the release of her next book.  If you like romantic suspense stories with a paranormal twist, you will love Tigris Eden’s latest series.  She even has a GoodReads group:  https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/82108-author-tigris-eden-s-shadow-unit. Thank you to Urban Girl Reader for having me on the blog today. This excerpt is from Part II of Burned In Shadows, enjoy!

Part II

The Phoenix

The Sacred Order of the Phoenix was founded by the Macedonian prince Alexander the Great. When his father Philip II died he became king, conquering most of western Asia and moving forward to Egypt where he approached the Oracle of Amun-Re. There was only one question he asked.

“Who is my father?”

To that the Oracle replied. “The end of your beginning.”

Some say the Oracle named Amun, the supreme deity and most ancient of Egyptian Gods. Alexander went on to become an influential man, conquering his enemies and building the city of Alexandria.

The masses believed he died in battle. That he was killed and buried in an undisclosed location. What they didn’t know was he was buried, but only slept for three days. On the third day, he rose from his funeral pyre a brilliant majestic Phoenix. When he returned to Alexandria he found his kingdom spilt and the neighboring countries strife with war. Instead of taking back what was rightfully his he travelled throughout the many countries and established the six houses of Ignis. There was House Benu founded in Egypt, House Simurgh of Persia, and House Ziz from Israel. The last land he visited was deep in the Carpathian Mountains and stretched as far as the Byzantine Empires, there he founded House Turul. The Order of the Phoenix were human in nature at first until Alexander bedded the human females. The females of the order began what would later be known as the nesting phase, resulting in offspring that were of his nature.

He continued to spread his seed far and wide within his sacred order until a lone female became angry of his indiscretions and captured him. The lone female from House Benu who’d felt betrayed by his other women, came to him in the night and took from him a single feather, that lay at the base of his neck, rendering him mortal once more. She took him back to the oracle so that judgment would be past.

When he returned he asked another question.

“Why have I been forsaken?”

The oracle’s answer was simple and to the point.

“What you were given is sacred and has now been taken into more capable hands. Only a feather plucked can undo the deed. The men can no longer lead.

Understanding dawned as he realized his immortality was passed, to the female who took his feather.

Alexander returned home with the mistress of House Benu where she later died, but, not before giving birth to their daughter, Cleopatra the last ruler of Alexander and Matria to House Benu. As the years progressed he became old of age passing on to the in-between. He watched as his daughter rose to power when her adoptive father perished in a battle. He watched when the Romans came to take her and her lovers life but did not succeed. His punishment was to watch as his kind was hunted and persecuted for their feathers. The Order of the Phoenix perished under the tutelage of their female leader. Their kind to be whispered about and spoken as if they were a myth. To other immortals they were.

Cleopatra was later captured after the Romans infantry pillaged the lands killing her people. Appearing dead she was brought in front of her lover, Antony to torment him for deserting his post. When he roared in pain throwing himself over her charred body, she rose from her ashes, taking out the Roman’s army in her wake, never to be heard from again.

About Tigris Eden

One of Tigris’ fondest memories, was in the sixth grade, when her teacher read her story, “The Case of The Missing Pepperoni”, out loud to the class. It was then she decided she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. But like all childhood dreams, reality has a way of crashing in and disrupting plans. But her imagination and the voices inside her head never stopped talking. Every dream she could remember was jotted down in her dream journals.

Years later she’d use them to express her happiness and her pain, through poetry. She took her real life situations and twisted them into something she could handle. Fantastical tales of love, life, death and cruelty. Now that her dream of writing is a reality she turns the voices in her head into stories of werewolves, vampires and other mythical made-up creatures and drops them into a world of her choosing.

All of her stories are figments of her imagination, mixed in with a healthy dose of real-life situations. Tigris’ famous lines are “It’s not me who’s interesting, it’s my crazy whacked out friends and family around me who are.”

Aspiring to be waited on hand and foot, Tigris spends her evenings and weekends in front of her computer, typing out the various stories that she’s either dreamed or witnessed.

An avid reader, Tigris enjoys an eclectic range of authors. Some of her favorite titles are Animal Farm, Slaughterhouse Five, Stephen Kings, The Stand, and Big Bad Wolf, A light in the Attic, Jane Eyre, The Color Purple, Oh the Places You Will Go, The Secret Garden, and Menefreya in The Morning. Just to name a few.

When she’s not writing Tigris marvel’s at life’s gifts. She likes to take pictures of beautiful things. She openly admits that what she may find beautiful another person might not, and she’s perfectly okay with that. She enjoys her music and doesn’t leave home without it. Long pillow conversations with LL about nonsensical things, and hanging out with her boys, when they deem her “cool enough.”

It can be said that life is never boring at her house. Something is always going on. Shouting matches at the tele, food fights at the table, and the occasional extremely loud singing.
Tigris is a military brat who’s done her fair share of traveling, thanks to her Army father. She’s married to the infamous LL and has three boys. She currently resides in Houston and is actively seeking a book-buddy for the end of the world.
