Love Me Some Cowboy Button Tour 300 x 225

3 Movies that Inspired Nothing But Trouble by Lisa Mondello

I love movies.  And I love cowboy romances.  Although most of my books aren’t inspired by movies, there are certain things about movies that give me inspiration.

When I was writing NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, book 1 of LOVE ME SOME COWBOY, 5 cowboy romances from 5 different authors, I spent a fair amount of time watching cowboy movies to help me get a feel for the cowboy life and to get inspiration.

One of my all-time favorite cowboy movies is The Horse Whisperer.  Although it’s not a true romance and it was set in Montana, not Wyoming, it does tug on the heart and looking at the beautiful scenery of the movie was a great way to get the feel of mountains of the area.

Another movie I loved to watch was 8 Seconds.  Luke Perry was pretty cute in that movie.  But it was the bull riding lifestyle that gave me the inspiration to have a bull rider as a hero in NOTHING BUT TROUBLE.

Another movie I watched many, many times was Urban Cowboy.  Although set in Texas, like my Texas Hearts series, and featuring a city cowboy, I still got a taste for that cowboy stubbornness and charm for my hero, Stoney Buxton.

What’s your favorite cowboy movie?  I have lots.  These were only a few.

Nothing But Trouble

His jaw tightened. Yes, there was something definitely wrong here. And money had nothing to do with it. It had everything to do with this beauty standing in front of him, who was clueless about what she was getting her pretty little hide into. “No,” he replied tersely.

“Mr. Buxton, I need your help.”

“Tourist season is in full swing. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding someone else.”

He turned his back to her and began walking along the fence toward the barn, almost forgetting… Abruptly, he glanced up and saw the charred remains of the barn. The place where all his troubles had started just one year ago. It hadn’t taken but a second for him to hear her boots digging into the dusty gravel behind him, jarring him from his thoughts.

“Then I’ll do it myself,” she said to his back.

His whole body stiffened. He angled back to read her face, to see if she was just being a spoiled rotten rich kid, trying to get her way, or if she was actually serious. Seeing her head held high and her arms crossed in front of her, he realized she was dead serious.

And dead she’d be if she stepped one boot into those mountains alone.

“You’ll do no such thing.”

Frustration flaring, he lifted his dusty hat and forced his fingers through the thick crop of black hair before returning the hat to his head.

“You just don’t get it, do you? You’re not asking me to take you on a theme park ride where you’ll get to see the wonders of the world at a nice safe distance. This is God’s country. The creatures that live up there don’t know civilization, and you are no better than them. You could–probably will–get killed if you go out there alone.” His lips twitched, taking a good long appraising look at the woman in front of him. “You might even chip a nail on that pretty hand of yours.”

Book Description:

Who can resist a tough, rugged cowboy?  Not these feisty, determined women!

Melanie Summers, a feisty zoologist with big dreams, must spend a month in the Wyoming wilderness in order to satisfy a deal made with her father.

Stoney Buxton is a hard-driving cowboy with simple values who needs to raise quick money to save the family ranch. Re-entering the rodeo circuit seems like the best way to get the money he needs until Melanie Summers shows up at his ranch flashing easy money. To everyone else, her offer seems like the answer to all his prayers. But one look at her long legs and pouting lips and Stoney know this high society gal is going to be nothing but trouble for his cowboy heart.

There’s a lot to be said about short and sweet and Nothing But Trouble won’t disappoint you in that regard.  The sparks start to fly when Melanie Summers thrusts herself in Stoney Buxton’s life to hire him to guide her in the Wyoming wilderness for a month.

Stoney is that quintessential cowboy; he loves and supports his family, is true to his roots, and is is the strong and silent type with a marshmallow heart for those he loves. Although he was a bit of a grump at times; I fell in love with him immediately and wanted to wrap him up and bring him home.

Melanie grew up protected and wealthy; she is independent, proud, a bit too stubborn and also a diabetic. Although I admired her independence, her reluctance to accept help when she needed it made me want to shake her at times.  There is something about a smart, independent woman that is in over her head that will not ask for help that just  drives me crazy. However, I could understand Melanie’s point of view in not wanting to disclose her diabetes, since she had been judged and treated by it all her life. She wanted to be more and I admired her for it.

Overall, Nothing But Trouble is a wonderful story. I appreciated the author’s attempt to incorporate Melanie’s diabetes into a unique storyline. Recommended for readers that like cowboys, sexy romance and novellas.
