Book Description:
I’ve been obsessed with Rafe Mason since I was thirteen. The twisted part of this story is that I still want him, even now.

Now that he’s holding me captive on an island.

Rafe has his reasons for doing what he’s doing, and if I’m honest, I can’t blame him. I’m the girl who sent him to prison for a heinous crime he didn’t commit.

But now he’s free and the tables have turned…now he’s the one driven by obsession.

TORRENT is a new adult dark romance with disturbing themes and explicit content that includes sexual situations and violence. Intended for adult readers 18+ only. Part one of the CONDEMNED series. This is not a stand-alone read.

Why I Choose this Book:  Between the cover and the blurb I was hooked.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect even with the 18+ and adult situation warning, but the warning is apt and anyone skittish about adult sexual situations or abuse should steer clear of this one.

Short and Sweet Summary: Alex wronged Rafe and helped send him to prison for a crime he didn’t do.  They say “Hell hath no fury like a scorned women.” Well, Rafe proves “Hell hath no fury like a man wronged.”

Female Lead:  Alex is not the usual kick-ass heroine that I typically enjoy reading about; however, she does have that certain vulnerable strength that abuse survivors have. I empathized for Alex and what had and was happening to her, but I wanted a bit more from her.  She’s a flawed character and knows it.

Male Lead:  Rafe is a strong male character, but his time in prison changed him and he commits to a plan to make Alex suffer as much as he had.  At times he is extremely crude, vulgar and degrading to her.  At times I could sympathize with him but the hatred and resentment for Alex drowned out any likability for him.

What I Liked:  The gritty realism of the situation just about tears you apart and the characters are truly realistic. All the characters have major moral and character flaws that gives Torrent its dark undertones.   Torrent is also well written and the novel flowed well from one situation to another.

What I didn’t Like:  In one word “Zach.”  Although there is something to be said about an author that writes a character so vile and hated that you have no sympathy at all.

The Recap:  Overall, Torrent is disturbing dark but does provide a glimmer of hope in that these two broken characters that have hurt each other so much could find solace with each other.  The next book in the Condemned series is Rampant due out in October.
