Interview & Giveaway: Deja Voodoo by Elle James

Deja Voodoo_Elle JamesWe have Elle James visiting us today. She took some time to answer some questions about her latest release and to play a quick round of holiday quickfire questions.  Help us in welcoming Elle to Urban Girl Reader.

Hi Elle

Thank you for taking the time to visit us at Urban Girl Reader.  Please tell us a bit about yourself.

Elle:  I spent twenty years in South Central Texas, ranching horses, cattle, goats, ostriches and emus. A former IT professional, retired Army and Air Force Reservist, I’m proud to be writing full-time, penning intrigues and paranormal adventures that keep my readers on the edge of their seats or laughing out loud. Now, living in northwest Arkansas, I’ve given up wrangling cattle and exotic birds to wrangle my muses, a malti-poo and a yorkie. When I’m not at her computer, I’m traveling, out snow skiing, boating, or riding my four-wheeler, dreaming up new stories.

UGR:  Deva Voodoo is your third novel in the Cajun Magic series.  Please tell us a bit about it.

Elle:  DEJA VOODOO

A little magic goes a long way…

Alexandra Belle Boyette is closing in on the big 3-0 and her mama has made it her mission to marry her off. In the tiny town of Bayou Miste, deep in the Louisiana swamps, finding suitable hubby material can be a challenge—and Alex would rather not rely on magical spells to do the trick. But there is a sexy new man in town who might fit the bill…

Ed Marceaux is in Bayou Miste to safeguard a key witness to a Louisiana Mafia murder. He must keep an eye out for suspicious characters—but the place seems to be full of them! What could be stranger than a woman dressed in a sexy nightgown chasing a naked man down the street? The enchantingly gorgeous Alex Boyette certainly makes it worth his while to find out…

Add a Voodoo spell gone wrong, and voila! madness—and love—ensues.

UGR: Without giving too much away, what is your favorite scene or quote from Deva Voodoo?

Elle:   This place…this family…should have come with a damn warning label.

UGR:  If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

Elle: I loved naked Craig in VOODOO ON THE BAYOU. So sexy and so messed up trying to find a woman to love him in such a short time.

UGR:  When you take some time off from writing, are you a reader? If so, what genres do you read? Do you have any favorite authors? If not, what do you prefer to do in those precious moments?

Elle: I love to read a lot of different genres from YA to thriller. I enjoy reading in my spare time and watching a good action adventure movie like The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes or a good romantic comedy. I like so many different things, I could be happy with just about anything!

UGR:  What characters do you find the most challenging to write – the good or the bad?

Elle: The good! Sometimes the good characters are harder. If they’re too good, they might just be boring. Gotta make them a little flawed to make them more relatable. I love to make my villains relatable too. I just loved my witness in this story. Everyone wanted to shoot her! Good guys and bad guys.

UGR:  What upcoming projects are you working on and when can your fans expect to look for them?

Elle: I’m working on Romantic Suspense books for Harlequin that will come out in 2014 and a Nocturne along the lines of Beauty and the Beast (not sure when that one will see print). I’m writing like my hair’s on fire and want to find time to fit in Calliope’s story from Deja Voodoo.

Quickfire (Holiday) Questions (just because I never get to ask summer authors these questions)

UGR: Colored or White Christmas Lights?

Elle: Colored!

UGR: Minimal Decorations or “Going All Out” mode?
Elle: All out! And Colored

UGR: Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Elle: Hot chocolate chased by egg nog

UGR: Evergreens or Poinsettias?
Elle: Poinsettias for the color and evergreens for the smell

UGR: Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph the Reindeer?
Elle: Rudolph. He can fly!

Thank you for joining us today Elle, we look forward to reading more of your works in the future.
