Aislinn Lenear lost her anthropologist father high in the Bolivian Andes. Her mother, crazy with grief that muted her magic, was marched into a radioactive vortex by alien creatures and killed. Three years later, stripped of every illusion that ever comforted her, twenty-two year old Aislinn is one resilient, kickass woman with a take no prisoners attitude. In a world turned upside down, where virtually nothing familiar is left, she’s conscripted to fight the dark gods responsible for her father’s death. Battling the dark on her own terms, Aislinn walls herself off from anything that might make her feel again.
Fionn MacCumhaill, Celtic god of wisdom, protection, and divination has been laying low since the dark gods stormed Earth. He and his fellow Celts decided to wait them out. After all, three years is nothing compared to their long lives. On a clear winter day, Aislinn walks into his life and suddenly all bets are off. Awed by her courage, he stakes his claim to her and to an Earth he's willing to fight for.
Aislinn’s not so easily convinced. Fionn’s one gorgeous man, but she has a world to save. Emotional entanglements will only get in her way. Letting a wolf into her life was hard. Letting love in may well prove impossible.
Aislinn Lenear is meeting Travis but there are some dark beings that are making that impossible to occur. Travis then screws up and leads Perrikus to her. Magic seems to be part of who Aislinn is – I can’t even make a coin disappear.
Aislinn comes across a wolf named Rune and a man named Fionn MacCumhaill. I found her to be an interesting character because she seems to attract so much attention. I wouldn’t mind attracting some attention but I’m not into scary – yes, call me chicken.
This seems to be like the Science Fictions movies I used to watch where the aliens take over. Besides the aliens, we do get some sex. One thing I felt about that was it felt like it was more comfort sex than for love. But then, this isn’t the end of Aislinn’s story so she may get romantically involved with someone.
I found this to be a perfect book to read for Halloween. Anything just seems more possible around this time of year. It’s not a horror story so you won’t need to hide behind the pillow during the scary stuff but it will feed your paranormal need. Our author also had me feeling as if I could be a part of the story.
I was surprised how quickly I read this book. I had just started the book and then it was like I turned around and it was over. It left me wanting to know more about what the aliens have done to the world. Is there hope for people like Aislinn and Fionn? Will the dark beings win? Maybe not in my lifetime, but could this ever happen to our own corner of the universe? The good news is that come February, Ann has the next book, titled Earth’s Blood will be coming out. I look forward to reading this next book in the Earth’s Reclaimed series. (Reviewed by Lynn Reynolds from Romance Reader Enthusiast)
