Book Description:
Aislinn Lenear lost her anthropologist father high in the Bolivian Andes. Her mother, crazy with grief that muted her magic, was marched into a radioactive vortex by alien creatures and killed. Three years later, stripped of every illusion that ever comforted her, twenty-two year old Aislinn is one resilient, kickass woman with a take no prisoners attitude. In a world turned upside down, where virtually nothing familiar is left, she’s conscripted to fight the dark gods responsible for her father’s death. Battling the dark on her own terms, Aislinn walls herself off from anything that might make her feel again.

Fionn MacCumhaill, Celtic god of wisdom, protection, and divination has been laying low since the dark gods stormed Earth. He and his fellow Celts decided to wait them out. After all, three years is nothing compared to their long lives. On a clear winter day, Aislinn walks into his life and suddenly all bets are off. Awed by her courage, he stakes his claim to her and to an Earth he's willing to fight for.

Aislinn’s not so easily convinced. Fionn’s one gorgeous man, but she has a world to save. Emotional entanglements will only get in her way. Letting a wolf into her life was hard. Letting love in may well prove impossible.

Lynn’s Review:
Aislinn Lenear is meeting Travis but there are some dark beings that are making that impossible to occur.  Travis then screws up and leads Perrikus to her.  Magic seems to be part of who Aislinn is – I can’t even make a coin disappear.

Aislinn comes across a wolf named Rune and a man named Fionn MacCumhaill.  I found her to be an interesting character because she seems to attract so much attention.  I wouldn’t mind attracting some attention but I’m not into scary – yes, call me chicken.

This seems to be like the Science Fictions movies I used to watch where the aliens take over.  Besides the aliens, we do get some sex.  One thing I felt about that was it felt like it was more comfort sex than for love.  But then, this isn’t the end of Aislinn’s story so she may get romantically involved with someone.

I found this to be a perfect book to read for Halloween.  Anything just seems more possible around this time of year.  It’s not a horror story so you won’t need to hide behind the pillow during the scary stuff but it will feed your paranormal need.  Our author also had me feeling as if I could be a part of the story.

I was surprised how quickly I read this book.  I had just started the book and then it was like I turned around and it was over.  It left me wanting to know more about what the aliens have done to the world.  Is there hope for people like Aislinn and Fionn?  Will the dark beings win?  Maybe not in my lifetime, but could this ever happen to our own corner of the universe?  The good news is that come February, Ann has the next book, titled Earth’s Blood will be coming out.  I look forward to reading this next book in the Earth’s Reclaimed series. Book Description:
Once respected members of society, shifters are running for their lives. In a futuristic world where resources are scarce, Kate uses her human form to work as a sex surrogate. Furious at what looks a lot like genocide for her people, she joins the shifter underground.

Devon’s been a cop for a long time. He has shifter blood, but not enough to change into anything; at least not until the police department insists on a series of infusions to make him better at tracking shifters so they can be imprisoned—or killed.

Devon’s latest assignment is Kate. From the moment he sees her, he can’t get her out of his mind. The line between hunter and hunted thins, blurs, and finally disappears. Kate and Devon defy the odds. Will their passion save them or doom them forever?

Lynn’s Review:
I found this to be a series that you will want to read in order.  It will become evident to you if you were like me and started with book two.  This is Devon Heartshorn’s story.

Devon’s job is to keep an eye on Kate Roman.  But as you read, you will notice that those lines start to blur.  One thing that I liked was that Ann made Devon a Native American.  I have not read too many characters that have a heritage that I can identify with.  Back in my family history, we had some relatives that were from the Cherokee tribe.

He’s also a man with demons from his past that he needs to deal with and how it affects his job.  He also doesn’t let his job affect his budding relationship with Kate.  I always seem to root for the underdog – in this case it seems to be the shifters.  Ann also made me hope that in my lifetime, I would get the chance to meet at least one.

Kate is a woman who lives in a world where her job is as a sex surrogate.  She also lives in a society where being is a shifter is a bad thing.  It also brings to mind how bad discrimination was even while I was growing up.

Our author made her female character a woman who is very compassionate.  She wants to help those that are being persecuted.  Again, we can compare this to our own history.  Kate’s job was not the centerpiece for this story – and you can see that when she has an interaction with one of her clients.   The whole vibe of the story would have changed if too much time were spent on Kate and her clients.

Being a surrogate is acceptable in that society.  And it begs the question that if you lived in that time period, which would you be more offended by?  For me, I would want to know if there are male sex surrogates.  And if any of them looked like Devon.

I look forward to seeing how this series develops over time and whom else Ann is going to introduce us to.  I haven’t been impressed with too many of the new shows currently on TV but I would watch if this were a series (as long as they stayed true to Ann’s stories).  But until it comes to television, I’ll just have to keep reading the Underground Heat series. (Reviewed by Lynn Reynolds from Romance Reader Enthusiast)
