But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she’s on. She’s never brought her work home with her—until now. This time, it’s personal. Sherri’s Review: Red-Headed Stepchild is the debut novel from Jaye Wells, so there is a bit of background development and world building in the book, but not too much that it slows the pace down. What makes this different than your typical urban fantasy/paranormal novel is the different […]

It’s Monday (8/2), What are you Reading?

This awesome meme is hosted by Shelia at Book Journey.  It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where blogger’s gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. This was a great week for my reading, but not so for blogging.  I headed to the northern reaches of Michigan with girlfriends for a long weekend.  We had lots of fun but there was limited internet access, so I really wasn’t able to do any blogging. However, I was able to take lots of books, so I managed to get a lot of reading done.  I have two favorite books of the week, the first is Red-Headed Stepchild which is the first book in a new paranormal series by Jaye Wells.  It has a different take on the paranormal which I found intriguing.  My second favorite was Life As We Knew It […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Sparks

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. This week my pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is a continuation of a great new author and series that I discovered last week. The series is set in Detroit, which is near where I live and it was fun to actually read about locations and real life things that I knew about.  I was also pleased to find that Detroit was presented in a very positive light. Go Tigers!!  Luckily, my wait for this book isn’t that long!   Sparks (Anya Kalinczyk, Book 2) by Laura Bickle Publisher: PocketISBN: 978-01439167687Release Date:  August 31, 2011 Description:  Anya Kalinczyk is the rarest type of psychic medium, a Lantern, who holds down a day job as an arson investigator with the Detroit Fire Department—while working 24/7 to exterminate malicious spirits haunting a city plagued by […]

It’s Monday (7/26), What are you Reading?

This awesome meme is hosted by Shelia at Book Journey.  It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where blogger’s gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. I had a so-so week with my reading. too busy at work and then the basement flooding over the weekend.  But I did manage to finish 2 books and an audiobook.  My favorite book of last week was Stormwalker by Allyson James, although Embers was a good solid addition to my paranormal reading.  My least favorite was Wild Ride by Jennifer Crusie.  I have always liked her books but this novel, which even had demons in it, just didn’t’ work for me.  It’s a solid read, just not her best.  I had planned to complete a couple of reviews this weekend but got sidetracked when we lost power, so much for getting a […]

It’s Monday (7/19), What are you Reading?

This awesome meme is hosted by Shelia at Book Journey.  It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where blogger’s gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. I had a really good week with my reading. Two of the books I finished Cast in Silence and Black Magic Sanction were each close to 500 pages each, so they were rather large books to finish. Grand total 4 books and 1 audiobook completed. I also participated in the Once Upon a Readathon event and was a hostess in the Book Extravaganza.  I completed one book review this week for Black Magic Sanction, which I loved.  Now that I’ve gotten a bit of a rhythm I am going to aim to complete two reviews a week now. (Links to the books below are from Goodreads unless otherwise noted). Last Week’s Reading: Cast […]

Read-A-Like List ~ Adult Faerie Novels

Read-A-Like List ~ Adult Faerie Novels

The eighth Summer Break Reading Challenge Activity involves us creating a Read-a-Like List.  We get to choose any topic/theme that we want and there isn’t any specific number of titles required. So for my list, I choose faeries since I seem to have read a lot of them over the last year. My list is for novels for adults and/or contain adult themes, that is whey Glimmerglass is not on the list. Some are not recommended for the younger crowd.   When you’re a half incubus, your reputation precedes you… All eyes are on Gabriel Mac Braire the day he makes his first appearance in the Seelie Court, including those of Aislinn Finvarra. Despite deep bitterness over her last failed relationship, Aislinn cannot help but be curious about the half incubus who is known to possess dark magick, both lethal and sexual in nature. Rumors abound of the women who […]
