Book Description:
Gaby Moore’s powers emerge years too early due to adolescent hormones, complications with loving a fallen angel, and constant demon attacks. She is forced to deal with the guilt of believing she murdered Alexander’s “mother,” while trying to stop the demonic war before it begins. Only the love and acceptance of friends, family, and her beloved Alexander could save her from turning to her demonic side.

Sherri’s Review:

Quick Take: As the race to save heaven heats up; multiple forces attempt to tear Alex and Gaby apart.  Overall, it’s a solid addition to the series and sets up an epic battle for Gaby and Alex to face.

Fall From Grace is the second novel in the Battle for Souls series. Although it is a solid read, it suffers from the dreaded “middle book” syndrome that is often seen in a trilogy, which seemed to drag the story out for me. Also, the strong, independent and intelligent female lead character, Gaby, seemed to have disappeared and become a self-centered, whiny, cliggy female (my least favorite type of character).  However, delving deeper into the storyline, I was unsure if this was deliberately done by Knight to reflect the powers that Gaby is developing or not.  Either way, I was unsure, which distracted me from fully enjoying the story.

Overall, I liked this story, although not as much as Rise From Darkness. Alex was WAY to protective for my tastes and Gaby not independent enough.  I’m hoping that either Knight will explain this plot development more in Ascension of Evil or the characters realize their faults and resolve them.  Recommended for middle aged readers (and older).  However, there is some minor physical intimacy between the characters that readers should be aware of.

Book Description:
Alexander Lorre gives new meaning to the term “tormented teen.” He’s a newly fallen angel, which means he has the self-control of a three-year-old, the hormones of a teenager and the strength of an angel. When he rescues Gaby Moore from drowning, the chemistry between them is undeniable. With a local demon threatening Gaby’s life, he struggles to find a balance between remaining close enough to protect her but distant enough to control his desires.

As danger draws closer, Gaby uncovers shattering secrets that will lead to an ultimate choice. Will she fight alongside her father, an earthbound hunter killing fallen angels and demons, give into the demon blood coursing through her veins and join the demon world, or save the man she loves from both? The first two choices damn her, but the last one could destroy them all.

Sherri’s Review:

Quick Take: This book starts with a bang and keeps up a relatively fast pace throughout. There are plenty of action-packed scenes, as well as some tender teen angst moments.  All-told it’s a great start and excellent set-up for the series’s next books.

Rise from Darkness is a great start to the Battle of Souls Series!! Knight does a great job with creating a story line that draws the reader in and doesn’t let go! The main characters Gaby and Alex are complex and flawed, just the way I love my characters!  Gaby is independent and intelligent, but has been through an emotional crisis that she is strongly to overcome when she meets Alex.  The characters are realistic and I quickly become invested in them.

The supporting characters are also fully developed and we get a glimpse into each of their stories as well.  In particular I enjoyed Boon’s character and wanted to know more about his history.   There are several twist and turns in the book that will keep you engaged to the end and although this is a series you will not be disappointed in where the story ends.

Rise in Darkness is a young adult novel suitable for middle aged readers and older.
