Book Description:

As one of the twelve Guardians, Urian has spent the last several centuries in a constant battle to keep the inhabitants of Earth’s Realms under control. Humanity has to evolve, hell beasts need to die, and Immortals need mates. But lately, Uri's mind is overrun with thoughts of when his sexy voyeur will find him again, watching him from the shadows, continuing their wicked game. All Guardians are forbidden contact with the little goddess and her brothers, but his need for her escalating, he finds it increasingly difficult to keep from pinning her down on the nearest surface and making her his.

Alexandra has managed to evade the Guardians and being cast out from the human Realm for centuries, ever since the Creators sent the Gods to sleep for their sins against humanity and banished all Immortals. Always sensing that she was needed on Earth, only once has Alex gone against her instincts and the price she paid will forever haunt her. It is for that reason she forces herself to stay away from the only male who has ever truly enticed her. The only one who has ever made her long for what she knows is dangerous.

In a desperate need to help her beloved brother, she will have to go to the enthralling Guardian, her dark obsession, and even though he will surely attempt to exile her, she won't go easily…

Warning: This book contains explicit and sizzling sex scenes with big dominant males. MFM, ménage, and light bondage.

My Thoughts:

I’m just going to go ahead and start this by saying JUST BUY THE SERIES!!! I’m loving it!! The only reason it took me so long to get through the books was because of a sudden promotion at work that came with double the work load.

Every spare moment I’ve had in between various duties to one faction or another, I’ve been engrossed in this series. I’ve only added the buy link to the first novel and the description of the first novel so there are no spoilers given away.  I’m going to attempt to continue the “No Spoilers” theme here, so bear with me.

Setta Jay has created a world that I absolutely adore. I LOVE Greek Mythology, and while I thought Sherrilyn Kenyon had ruined me for all others (in that I LOVE her books and thought no one would come close), Setta Jay has brought me right back in! If you love being taken away into a fantasy world so you don’t have to face reality for a little bit, READ THIS SERIES! If you like graphic sex scenes, and talk — READ THIS SERIES!

If I had to point out one fault, I feel as if some of the terms used seemed a bit plebeian when side-by-side with other terms that happen to be in Latin and/or Greek.  Alexandra’s “knowings” being one of them. But I also understand that with all of the terminology she has going, along with the characters, she’s actually provided a very helpful glossary of terms at the beginning of each book to help you remember who is whom and what is what. It’s wonderful and, did I mention I love it?

Honestly, the price cannot be beat, the books are a wonderfully complete world full of different villains (not just the same one for book after book after book, which gets old very quickly), and different obstacles for each couple to overcome. She writes three-dimensional characters with fascinating back stories of their own, with personalities of their own and personalities that complement their mates’. Also, the idea of the perfect mate — whether the term “soul mate” is used or not, is a romantic idea that I can completely get behind.

Is it realistic? Absolutely not. Which is why I love it. When I’m reading for pleasure, I’m reading something fictional that gets me away from reality and helps me escape the craziness of my everyday life. If you’re looking for that as well, seriously, buy the series and keep checking back to see what she comes out with next. I know I will.

PS> So far, as contrary as he is, my favorite Guardian is Dorian. You’ll understand when you get there.

Book Description:

Vampire Claire finds herself caught in the middle between her Master, Parker, and her Trigger, Andre. Little love is lost between the former friends, but somehow Claire must build a bridge between them when they are sent to Edgewood to settle their differences. The cost of her failure will be deadly.

Deep in the cellars of Edgewood, a game of sexual bondage unleashes unexpected dangers, twisting open, loving Andre into a secretive virtuoso of manipulation. Is this just another part of the game, or is he losing his mind? Parker will take desperate steps to protect his apprentice, but he won’t be dragged into the game with them.

Can Parker set aside forty years of bitter rivalry, or will he sacrifice Andre to save Claire?

My Thoughts:
A love triangle, bondage, dominant males, vampires, and an evil plot — What’s not to love?

I was honored to receive both books in this series by Amy Lee Burgess, the first being “Blood Gift” (Amazon purchase link here — side note, I feel like the woman on the cover resembles Kirsten Dunst, so that’s who I was picturing.) and the second, “Blood Gate”, to which this review is dedicated.

Told from Claire’s first person perspective, you begin after she’s been turned but she’s still new, and still learning the ropes.  She has the ability to read minds, and the ability to sway others to do her bidding — both talents came out after her turning. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have control over it, so being out in public is very difficult for her — many things are.  She comes from a troubled, abusive past and tries to use her powers for good, though the result isn’t always as she planned.

From the first book into the second, she switches “Masters” — first, the vampire who turned her, Parker, to the vampire she can’t resist, Andre.  Both are just as dark as she, with secrets of their own.  What I love about first person POV writing is that you are able to learn the secrets right along with Claire, but you still have your own frame of mind to think loudly, “What the hell are you doing?! Stop! Go back! Don’t!!!” even as she trudges forward.

At first I thought Claire was weak, but then I realized that, even though she definitely is in a way, deep below Amy Lee Burgess wrote a spine of steel and survivor techniques that I admire.

Speaking of admiration, she made me love and hate both Parker and Andre — and wish I had just one night with both of them.

This review, honestly, covers both books in a way — in the first book I hated Parker, in the second, I hated Andre. And in the end, I loved all three of them.  I do hope that there will be more for this series. The only matter of contention I have would be the price of the kindle books themselves. It may just be that I’m poor, but I don’t know if I’d pay $7.99 for each book. Possibly both ($4 each), but I do think the price is a bit high. To each their own, and to what they can afford.

I did very much enjoy these books and I do recommend that people read them and give Amy Lee Burgess credit where credit is due.
