Guest Post & Giveaway: Just One Night by Lauren Layne

Who’s Who at Stiletto  Hi there, and thanks so much for having me here on the blog! I’m THRILLED to be here talking about my newest release (Just One Night), but although it’s a standalone, it’s also third in a series, so I thought it might be fun to talk about who’s who in the world of my Stiletto series! First, what is Stiletto? Stiletto is the name of the magazine where all of my heroines work, or are somehow connected to. Think Cosmo/Glamour — very fun, very NYC! So just who are these woman? Well, we’ve got the flirty one (Julie), the classy one (Grace), and feisty one (Riley). Each lends their own spark and personal experience to their articles, and they’ve covered everything from first date makeup, how to tell if he’s cheating, and ahem … toys in the bedroom. And the guys? Right. Let’s get to the […]

Interview with Jason Luke – Author of Interview with a Master

Note:  Today Ginny has a special interview she was able to have with Jason Luke, author of the newly released Interview with a Master.  Thanks to Ginny and Jason for making this happen at Urban Girl Reader. Although I am unable to make international phone calls and Jason Luke resides in Australia, thank God for the internet and email! Here’s a brief interview with the author of “Interview with a Master”! Ginny: Do you think of yourself as a natural story teller? Your writing style seems to make it so, and even Jonah tells stories naturally. Jason: I don’t regard myself as a natural storyteller. Someone once said that the best dancers are those who are taught to dance – and I think that applies to writing too. It seems the more I write the easier it becomes to tell the story.  G: Jonah often seems to have to push […]

Guest Blog & Giveaway: Dangerously Hers by A.M. Griffin

My New Year’s Resolutions by A.M. Griffin Hello *waves* I’m taking over to reveal my New Year resolutions. I don’t normally do resolutions because frankly, no one ever keeps them, including me. This year I decided on a few: 1. Watch my spending habits I spend like money is going to go out of style tomorrow. LOL. It’s quite ridiculous actually. Sometimes I think I should be in some type of support group. These shoes only cost $100, sure I’ll take them. My purse is not a bottomless pit of endless funds but that’s how I’ve treated it in the past. Now, I can say that I didn’t spend all my money on frivolous things. A lot of it last year was used to promote my books. And I do believe you have to spend money to make money. So I will still promote myself, but I plan to be […]

Guest Post & Giveaway: All That’s Unspoken by Constance Phillips

Today we have author Constance Phillips joining us. We asked her to guest blog here at Urban Girl Reader and share her thoughts on the Christmas Season. We totally agree it is the most enchanting and magical time of the year. Read her thoughts and enter to win an awesome prize package! The Most Magical Time of the Year by Constance Phillips According to my family, I look at things in a different way than most people. I see a situation and I often apply a “what if.” But not your average “what if.” As a writer who writes paranormal as well as contemporary fiction, I’m pretty sure I was the only person who looked at one of my fellow attendees at a motorcycle event and thought, “he is so Fae.” This time a year can be busy – and stressful – but I encourage everyone not to forget the […]

Holiday Love with Jennifer Ryan – All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy by Emma Cane, Jennifer Ryan and Katie Lane

Holiday Love with Jennifer Ryan – All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy by Emma Cane, Jennifer Ryan and Katie Lane

Holiday Love by Jennifer Ryan I recently spoke to a friend and told her about the novella I’d written for Christmas. Excited to read it, she said, Christmas is the perfect time to meet someone new and fall in love. I think she’s right. The holidays bring a sense that anything can happen, leaving us open to invitations and new experiences. It’s the holidays, why not try something new? Maybe you’ll meet someone special at the company holiday dinner, or at a friend’s party, or get set up with your friend’s cousin from out of town. Maybe it’s the hope that in any one of those ordinary things we look forward to at the holidays, shopping at the mall, hunting for the perfect Christmas tree, meeting a friend for cocktails and smiling at the guy who can’t stop looking at you, you’ll find something extraordinary. You’ll find the one who […]

My Favorite Christmas Recipe & Giveaway: Highland Homecoming by B.J. Scott

My Favorite Christmas Recipe & Giveaway: Highland Homecoming by B.J. Scott

My Favorite Christmas Recipe by B.J. Scott One of my favorite treats at Christmas, or any time of the year is shortbread cookies. Often reserved for special occasions such as Christmas, Hogmanay, or weddings, these butter shortened morsels have been part of Scottish tradition for centuries. There are some who say the shortbread cookie, also known as ‘Petticoat Tails’ flavored with caraway seeds was a favorite of Mary Queen of Scots in the sixteenth century, but they have actually been around since before the twelfth century. Made in rounds and consisting of three ingredients—flour, butter and sugar—the shortbread was cut into wedged to resemble the fabric pieces used to make petticoats during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.  In Shetland festively decorated shortbread is broken over the bride’s head before she enters her new home. Making ‘Biscuit breads’ as they were once called began in medieval times. Left over dough […]

Character Guest Post & Giveaway: Weak at the Knees by Jo Kessel

Character Guest Post with Danni Lewis Heroine from Weak at the Knees Sauces for Seduction Cooking, that’s a way to a man’s heart isn’t it? Well, that’s what my Polish grandma has always told me. She’s a brilliant cook. Everything she creates (apart from HER Borscht soup) is simply divine – I’m telling you, she could turn her lounge into a trendy pop-up restaurant and people would pay good money to eat there. She makes the best cheesecake in the world. Anyway, back to the kitchen. My colleague Gina who works with me as a ski rep in the French resort of Montgenevre was given a cookery book by the chef of her hotel. It’s called Sauces for Seduction. All recipes are designed to snare a man. She’s already tried one of them out – a combustible concoction of carrots with aniseed. And yes, it worked a treat. The man […]

Interview & Giveaway: Sins of the Lost by Linda Poitevin

UGR:  Hi Linda and welcome to Urban Girl Reader!  First of all congrats on the release of SINS OF THE LOST, the 3RD book in your Grigori Legacy series! Please tell us a little bit about the series. Linda: Thank you so much for hosting me today, Sherri…I’m thrilled to be here! The Grigori Legacy series is a dark urban fantasy series sent in Toronto, Canada, where a homicide detective becomes embroiled in the war between Heaven and Hell. It’s part police procedural, part paranormal, and according to one of my reviewers, has one of the creepiest murder scenes he’s ever written. 😉 I think the best description for it is a supernatural thriller with a strong romantic element. And if you like the Supernatural television series, it will be right up your alley! UGR:  The Grigori Legacy takes an interesting twist from the classic angel mythos.  What was your […]
