Best Audiobooks of 2014 Blog Hop 600x407

Hi Everyone, Sherri here for this hop!!!  I was so excited to see this blog hop and thought it was perfect timing as we head into 2014.  The Best of 2014 Audiobook Blog Hop is where we highlight our favorite 5 audiobooks from 20134  This hop is hosted by The Book Nympho, Hot Listens, and Geeky Bloggers Book Blog and it runs from Jan 25th 2014 to February 1st, 2015.

I had the hardest time narrowing down my choices but these five titles all had five star reviews from me in 2014 and that doesn’t happen when I don’t enjoy the narration.  When I went back through my titles I truly enjoyed the narration by these narrators (and the stories weren’t so bad also).  🙂

Here are my top 5 for 2014….

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6)

By Ilona Andrews
Narrated By Renee Raudman
Length: 15 hrs and 6 mins

Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shape-shifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta. Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shape-shifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute – and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer – but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap.…

Audio Thoughts: Continues to be a top-notch series. Renee Raudman’s narration is spot on and is enjoyable to listen to.

Angel’s Legion (Guild Hunter #6)

By Nalini Singh
Narrated By Justine Eyre
Length: 12 hrs and 19 mins

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force. Vampires are dying impossibly of disease. Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York in ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels. Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York . . . and on Raphael.

Audio Thoughts: Justine’s unique voice adds an exotic twist to this series. In this standout series she shines with Raphael and Elena.

Chimes at Midnight (October Daye #7)

By Seanan McGuire
Narrated By  Mary Robinette Kowal
Length: 12 hrs and 15 mins

Things are starting to look up for October “Toby” Daye. She’s training her squire, doing her job, and has finally allowed herself to grow closer to the local King of Cats. It seems like her life may finally be settling down…at least until dead changelings start appearing in the alleys of San Francisco, killed by an overdose of goblin fruit.

Toby’s efforts to take the problem to the Queen of the Mists are met with harsh reprisals, leaving her under sentence of exile from her home and everyone she loves. Now Toby must find a way to reverse the Queen’s decree, get the goblin fruit off the streets – and, oh, yes, save her own life, since more than a few of her problems have once again followed her home. And then there’s the question of the Queen herself, who seems increasingly unlikely to have a valid claim to the throne….

To find the answers, October and her friends will have to travel from the legendary Library of Stars into the hidden depths of the Kingdom of the Mists – and they’ll have to do it fast, because time is running out. In Faerie, some fates are worse than death.

October Daye is about to find out what they are.

Audio Thoughts: I love Mary Robinette Kowal’s crisp and clear narration and this is another series that continues to evolve and get better with time.

515QOE5pQ7L._SL300_Festive in Death (In Death #39)

By J. D. Robb
Narrated By Susan Ericksen
Length: 13 hrs and 13 mins

Eve Dallas deals with a homicide – and the holiday season – in the latest from the #1New York Times bestselling author.

Personal trainer Trey Ziegler was in peak physical condition. If you didn’t count the kitchen knife in his well-toned chest.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas soon discovers a lineup of women who’d been loved and left by the narcissistic gym rat. While Dallas sorts through the list of Ziegler’s enemies, she’s also dealing with her Christmas shopping list – plus the guest list for her and her billionaire husband’s upcoming holiday bash.

Feeling less than festive, Dallas tries to put aside her distaste for the victim and solve the mystery of his death. There are just a few investigating days left before Christmas, and as New Year’s 2061 approaches, this homicide cop is resolved to stop a cold-blooded killer.

Audio Thoughts: After 39 plus book you think I would get bored with this series but it continues to be a must read one for me.  Susan Ericksen is the voice of Eve, Roarke and Peabody for me and even if I can’t get my hands on an audiobook I hear her voice when I read the book.

61bJxKiDDuL._SL300_Reckoning (Fallen Siren, #2)

By S. J. Harper
Narrated By Johanna Parker
Length: 7 hrs and 44 mins

Join Agents Emma Monroe and Zack Armstrong. She’s sacrificed. He’s suffered. They’ve both been betrayed. Now it’s time for a reckoning. Special Agent Emma Monroe has a secret. She’s a Fallen Siren, cursed by the gods and banished to Earth for her failure to prevent the kidnapping of Persephone. As an FBI agent she saves the lives of others believing redemption could be one rescue away. Her partner Zack is a werewolf and former Black Ops sniper who once carried out a string of questionable assignments. Now he’s determined to atone for his past. Ironically, there’s a portion of his past Zack doesn’t remember – an affair with Emma. Giving into their attraction for one another almost led to their undoing. Now it’s back to business as usual. While trying to unravel the mystery behind a series of kidnappings in Southern California, Emma and Zack become entangled with political tensions in the vampire and Were worlds. Not to mention the struggles they face in their relationship with one another. With so much uncertainty, they come to realize the only thing they can really count on is one another – or can they?

Audio Thoughts: This was a new series I was introduced to this year and I instantly fell in love with it. The premise is about a fallen Siren and the redemption she is trying to earn.  Johanna Parker’s narration is excellent as usually.

Ooooh glad to see two of the series I love is on your top. I think I actually left off on the series on those books too.

  2. Felicia the Geeky Blogger

You just added to my list. I really am surprised that I haven’t tried the Fallen Siren series.

  3. lupdilup

I LOVED your top 2 choices, in fact Magic Rises was one my top 3 last year. I will definitely check out your other 3 choices, well…With the exception on Festive In Death, not because I don’t think is awesome, but I have only listened to the first book…I know shame on me!
Thank you for participating and for sharing your favorites with us 🙂

  4. nrlymrtl

I love audiobooks and listen a few a week (I have a job where I can listen). Last year, some of my favorite listens were: The Dragon Stone saga by Kristian Alva, the Dead Eye series by Jim Bernheimer, and the Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson.

  5. Diana Leigh

My top two favorite audiobooks last year were thrillers – YOU by Caroline Kepnes and IN THE BLOOD by Lisa Unger. Both were fantastic!

  6. Grace MyBookSnack

Nice picks! I’m gearing myself up to start the In Death series this year!

  7. Linda Townsend

I love audios. I discovered them just over 2 years ago and have been hooked since. I listened to 40 last year. My favs last year were The World of Fae by Terry Spear, Red Stone Security series by Katie Reus, The Gods’ Trilogy by Debra Holland and Talon by Julie Kagawa! Thanks for the giveaway! Gently used is great!

  8. Anne

I have the same reaction to the Eve Dallas books as you. My library has all of the books on audio and I listen to them at work. When a new one comes out I read the paper form first and I, too, here Susan’s voice when I read. I really like Murder of crows and Written in Red by Anne Bishop in audio and The Iron Druid books by Kevin Hearne.

  9. Lisa Vazquezanzua

I haven’t had the chance to listen to any audiobooks yet so I don’t have a favorite yet.

  10. BookLady

Audiobooks are a new format for me. I would love to win a copy of Dark Peril by Christine Feehan, one of my favorite authors. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  11. You picked some favorites that I’ve read, but haven’t listened to yet. My favorite reader last year was Davina Porter doing Outlander, but to be fair, I didn’t listen to more than a half-dozen books.

  12. Tanya Guthrie

I haven’t been listening for long, but I love the experience! I loved Remy by Katy Evans, and Beautiful Disaster. Thanks for the chance!

  13. Kristen Noel

I’ve never listened to an audiobook, but I’m getting some really great suggestions from the hop!

  14. I have just started listening to auto books in the last year while driving to see the new grandbaby. Sure makes the 3 hour trip much more enjoyable.

  15. Ann S

I love audiobooks, I’ve been listening to the Night Huntress novels and loved them. Thanks for the giveaway!

  16. JoAnna B

Love audio books. My favorites from 2014 are from the Charley Davidson and Guild Hunters series!

  17. YvonneJ

I fell in love audiobooks years ago. I just finished listening to the The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and it is worth the listen.

  18. Janie McGaugh

I pretty much always have an audio book in progress, generally “reading” at least one a week. My favorite of the 2014 books I’ve listened to are Kresley Cole’s Dark Skye, Jeaniene Frost’s Up from the Grave, Ilona Andrews’ Magic Breaks, Lara Adrian’s Crave the Night, and Darynda Jones’ Seventh Grave and No Body.
