“By day a frog, by night a man, ‘til de next full moon...”
At first, lawyer and ladies’ man Craig Thibodeaux thought Madame LeBieu’s chant was a strange bayou joke. But the voodoo worked and Craig is spending his days as...well, a small green frog. Now he has only two weeks to find love, or his new froggy transformation becomes permanent.
When she receives the anonymous toxic water sample from Bayou Miste, research scientist Elaine Smith decides a trip to the bayou is the perfect excuse to escape the lab, and forget about her cheating ex-fiance. Then she accidentally stumbles upon Craig’s oh-so-fine naked form, and her science-nerd brain is overrun with naughty thoughts about her new gorgeous night-time bayou guide.
But there’s more to Bayou Miste than voodoo curses and sexy late-night trysts. Dark secrets threaten the delicate ecosystem, and there are those who would do anything to keep those secrets hidden. Even murder...
Phew! As a Mississippi raised girl myself, I know a thing or two about the magic the Southern nights can bring on two unsuspecting people and Elle James shows she does too in her book Voodoo on the Bayou. This book opens with New Orleans lawyer and playboy Craig Thibodeaux finding himself in an unwanted predicament when he realizes he’s pissed off a Voodoo priestess for blowing off her granddaughter. What’s the priestess’ revenge? She places a curse on Craig that turns him into a frog by day and a human by night. The only way for the curse to be broken is for him to find his true love…but he only have two weeks to do it and with his track record, it won’t be easy.
In comes the socially awkward but incredibly determined Elaine Smith. Elaine is a brilliant scientist who has evidence that the bayou’s water has been contaminated—and it’s her job to find out who’s behind it. Elaine herself is feeling the very recent sting of finding her fiancé cheating with another woman, and is more than eager to throw herself into her new mission. Her plans take a turn when she realizes Craig will be her guide—and he’s awakening feelings she’s never experienced before.
I read this book in one sitting, not because it was short but because the sexual tension between Craig and Elaine wouldn’t let me put the book down! James’ Craig is the perfect sexy Southern male and Elaine is not blind to it, putting them both in situations where they give into the heat that has formed between them. Both Craig and Elaine have to deal with their own skeletons in their past which keeps the story believable amidst humans turning into frogs and Voodoo magic.
For those looking for an entertaining and steamy read, you’ll definitely have to check out Voodoo on the Bayou! I give this story five out of five for having me fanning in the middle of winter while reading it!
