I’m a sucker for a strong-willed female bartender with pointy ears and a penchant for fist fighting with her best friend to relieve stress. So it should come as no surprise that Kinley Baker’s Excuse My Fairy was right up my alley!
Draybeth is an outcast fairy who is busy fighting a growing darkness inside of her when her bar is burned to the ground by an angry fire breathing patron. Some good comes from it though when she realized the law enforcer that has come to investigate the arson is also her mate. She’s too busy being consumed by the darkness and Lawman Barrett is reeling from a bad experience with another woman, so neither one is ready to address the ‘mate’ issue. But fate waits for no fairy and Draybeth finds herself unable to stay away from the Lawman despite her best attempts.
Things are slowly heating up between the two until Draybeth is kidnapped and held prisoner by the dangerous Fairy King. Now it is up to Barrett to save his mate before it’s too late.
I really enjoyed Kinley Baker’s action filled tale! The characters all had so much personality to them and I instantly liked both main characters. Draybeth’s internal issues with her past really hooked me in; Baker’s humor definitely shines throughout the book as we watch Draybeth’s wrestle with herself and the ones who love her while she tries to control the darkness. My favorite parts are her interaction with Jiva, her best friend who happens to be a succubus (side note: I’d love to read Jiva’s story in a standalone book).
I give Excuse My Fairy five out of five stars for an interesting world with great characters and of course, a couple of steamy love scenes.
